The final countdown to Yule

Ma and I , as several already know , celebrate Yule over Christmas and No ,

They are not the same thing.. which cracks me up that some citiot put down in the on-line dictionary that Yule is; archaic term for Christmas. We can simply leave it at Yule starts December 21 on Winter Solstice  .. For those that believe they are the same.. Apparently they didn’t get the memo ; Christmas is celebrated on December 25th.

Friggin’ citiots …* snort* can’t live with them / can’t ship them off to a deserted island …

On Friday , Ma and I will head down to the Mother Tree ; the oldest tree up here and that has raised her own grove , to get our Yule bough .  That is the bigger part of the day for us along with ” laying to rest ‘ our bough from last year .

We will both have the 21st off together along with the 22nd . Ma goes back to work on Sunday and I on Monday .

Pretty sure a reasonable amount of people know Tuesday the 25th is Christmas . No plans as Ma’s work schedule followed up by mine keeps us from worrying about any holiday plans for it.

The forecast, for the now , is for snow on that Sunday eve and again Christmas night

………….Jolly……….. just in time to head , again , back to work ….after each .. Meh .. hopefully it’ll only snow as much as predicted.

Winter is coming

That would also be Yule . So far , ” they” are predicting a warmer than normal winter . That wouldn’t hurt my feelings. Let the snow stay a few hundred feet above Zen and I am totally good with that. We are getting plenty of rain which fill our water table here just fine. The water is soaking in as we would like , no washes up here . Down below I have seen a few from a couple very hard nights but so far so good.

The deer path of a road

Our “road” is holding up just fine as well . The trenches I re-cut are channeling the water off the sides so, so far so good. I know snow will come and the road will get buggered by our only neighbors. Seems they simply can not grasp ; “If you go around or straddle the mud puddles and drive on the higher side of the road instead of through the muddy lower edge , you wont get pot holes and muddy lower edges which then wash out the road.” Duh …..

It isn’t like I don’t yell that out while I fill everything back in again with a shovel…All rainy and snowy seasons…Every year…. for the last thirty years……. Even the birds get it and fly around the mud holes… You know… Because it would seem that only the neighbors are Bird Brains…

Red

” Red” our Ford Ranger , decided that it would be awesome to completely drop the ball this season ;

Clutch is all but out. Brakes went crazy literally overnight ..after she came out from the tire change , and I feel something in the steering.. hopefully just something to do with the brakes… She goes in early Thursday for the brake job.. hopefully it will indeed be a quick thing as I have no back up rig at the moment and with Ma’s work , she wont have a chance to be able to get me …. the two county walk at night may not be as fun is it may sound soooo hopin it goes smoothly .

The backup rigs

The Sami is down ; hoping it is a battery thing..Hard to tell because the Geo is also down..hopefully a battery thing.. Hard to tell because the Jeep is down as well.. and , yes, hopefully a battery thing …Literally all at the same time. I had them all running not that long ago…. So far charging the batteries has been just a waste of time.

You know what they say :

When it rains , you get wet .

Final Thoughts

It seems like our time is running ever faster. I sit here typing away , only to see the day getting darker…Yes, I’ll grant you that our cloud cover is settling around us .. dang dragons… But , Before I know it , Ma will be off work and I get to get up at 3:30am again to head in to work…Jolly.

Ma has spent her time off from work working on mending socks lately along with her spinning and knitting . She is putting in new heals on many pairs and looking at having to put in new toes on a few.  Everyone knows how much fun repairing anything is whether cars or socks , it is generally frustrating..Granted, I get frustrated trying to figure out this new fangled Fire TV dealio.. and I just don’t see me saying;

” Alexa ..Just turn on my damn show will you?” …Ok..Fine, technically I have thought of it , but I saw Ma using it and the dang thing couldn’t find the show;

” Alexa. Find movie ‘ Christmas in Tennessee .”

Hmmmm… I don’t think so. “

“What? Seriously?”

“Finding What Seriously.”

” Wait! No No No !.”

I can not seem to find ‘ Wait No No No ,”

I then , in the kitchen began to laugh and swear at the same time .

” I don’t think that was necessary ..”

She then just shut down,leaving us with the shopping network….In Spanish.

Ma just grabbed the remote to find it on her own… Maybe we don’t sound City enough.

I was able to pull up my YouTube page

It was the first time I had heard the music videos I put together on anything other than headphones or my comp speakers and they sounded pretty good. Better than I expected so that was fun…Then it finished my vids and started running on to some dang yacky yack thang before I could get back to it …and while I was trying to figure out how to

” Stop this crazy Thing !”

And Zen the clouds rolled in

The morning , though still dark wasn’t horribly cold. The breeze was almost non existent. Ma and I sat in the covered porch listening to our owls chat back and forth as they tend to do before heading off to roost.

The night skies , though having the high clouds lacked the morning fog yet , seems our dragons were still about yet to settle in for the day.

While we chatted , I watched as a light fog filled the small valley of Gotham , pooling in the lower areas off the river.  The fog began to thicken , pulling the colors from the night lights of the town. I had seen it doing that lately and thought it looked pretty cool so I walked into the house and grabbed my camera. The rain hadn’t started in yet so I wasn’t too concerned about anything getting wet while shot some pics.

One of the coyotes from ” Limpy’s pack came loping through. ” Red” with her name sake coloring along her collar and hips stopped to watch. She stood close to a larger stone some fifty yards out. She comes through fairly often these days to run the border of their hunting grounds and yet still doesn’t normally come in as close as Limpy or Mama . I imagine they are dealing with the twins these days more than not knowing how they like to try to sneak off  on their own.

I finish snapping pictures , saying a quiet good morning to her as she stands in the dark watching me.

The does , now forming their larger winter herd come in from the North around the house and into the yard.

Red watches the deer from her hiding spot knowing if the girls see her , there will be a chase and now is not the time to get kicked by the does.

One of the girl’s ears twist to the East , her head spinning in a moment to look at the coyote. Everyone holds their breath as the two try to decide what to do next.

Red slowly goes to the back side of the stone , moving carefully towards the berm in hopes to get over the top and break into a run before the girls decide to make chase.

The doe, stiffening , watches Red . Two more of the girls turn to watch.

Ma and I sit , waiting to see if they give the young coyote a break , letting her get away or if the hunt will be on.

The last we see of Red is her tail as it goes up and she clears the berm , picking up speed.

The does relax , starting to giggle and ” High Five ” each other as they claim the yard  once again . Our girl looks up to Ma and I;

” HA ! Big Bad Wolf ! I think she wet herself as she went over the top. Does Rule! Coyotes drool . “

I chuckle shaking my head . It looks to be the beginnings of

Just another day on Zen Mountain.
